Only Non-Burnables, and Metals must be brought to the DPW, leaves, and brush will still be collected. |

I understand it can be brought to the dpw building but getting it to the dpw is my problem.I have a washer and swingset I wanted to get rid of.There is no way it will fit in my car to make its way to the dpw.I could just bring it to the landfill if I could transport it. If I had known you were dropping the pick-up I would of had sears take my old washer for the 20$.I just wish you gave us a little more notice.I would of done things differently. I completely understand about the new truck and keeping it in shape. |

You can call the DPW and ask them if they will come and pick up your stuff. Their number is 453-3033 |

I wasn't thrilled about that, either, since I also have a small car. I had a metal shelving unit that I wanted to put out, but after I saw the notice I spent 45 minutes taking out all the screws and disassembling it so I could bring it over. It would have been helpful for them to include in the notice that we could call the DPW and they might come get it. (If they did, I don't remember reading it).
Thanks for the info., forumadmin. |

i understand towns request to have cleanup brought in. they want to eliminate wear and tear on the new truck, but a lot of people don't have access to a vehicle to bring in large items, others have a difficult time just getting their items to the curb--what about seniors? i don't think these people should be put through the trouble of finding a way--what about limiting curb side to large end items for those uncapable of loading to the building and for seniors who can't get items out--maybe if we just have people bring in what is moveable and have the town pick up for things that cannot be brought to them |

The wear & tear they are worried about is caused by the larger item, such as sofa beds, and anything that has metal tubing in it. It tends to make holes in the body of the truck as it is being crushed. I spoke to the DPW last night, and made some suggestions to get the clean up done this year, and then we have 6 months or so to find another solution. |

I'm wondering if the town has a dump truck they could use for cleanup instead of the new truck? Just a thought . . . |

with using the town dump truck is the loading. Most of the time we only have 2 guys working clean-up. There is no lift and it is higher than garbage truck, this causes it to be more difficult for them. The other problem of course is that they have been getting items from other towns left on our curbs (family, friends, midnight drops, etc..). The town will still be doing pick-up for seniors that can't get stuff out and will also accomodate those disabled or with true hardships. What they want is to cut down dramatically the wear and tear on the town vehicles to get full use of them. Metals and large end items do cause problems with vehicles. My recomendation is to try to utilize any generous people in town with trucks, veans, etc..and if it is then a problem call DPW. Most people can get at least all their small items there to help eliminate half the trouble. At the town meeting they said this is first step to try to figure out how to eliminate the problems they currently have, it may not be permanent, but they at least want to give it a try. It seems fair to me. |

I was at the meeting, too, but didn't get to really ask about using the dump truck(s). Your explanation makes sense, though. Thank you. |

We live in Liberty, and last year we didn't even HAVE a fall cleanup! This past spring we had to take everything to them, and it was a total mess. They had only ONE dumpster for the entire town, and stuff was just strewn everywhere. God only knows how long it took for them to clean up the mess.
Every year we pay higher and higher taxes, and our town services get less and less. |
